Matching a camper to a vehicle comes down to three numbers: the tow rating, the ball weight and the payload left in the car once everything is loaded.

The Numbers That Matter

A trailer can be within its own rating and still overload the tow vehicle. Check the ball weight against the vehicle limit, then subtract family, fuel and gear from payload.

If you are close to the limit on paper, you are over it in practice. Leave margin.
